Curran Patrick ""Pat"" Kelley, of Nokomis, FL, passed away at the age of 101 in Sarasota, FL. He was born in Chicago, IL to the late Myra L. Kelley and the late John M. Kelley former atty for the Ringling Brothers and the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus. He graduated from Central High School in Washington, DC in 1933, received his BS at the University of WI in Madison, and LLB at Stetson Law School in DeLand, FL. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1939. He was married to his beloved wife the late Helen Trieloff in 1942 and left for Naval training immediately after. He was a lieutenant in the United States Navy in WWII and served as a Fleet Liason Officer to support amphibious landings throughout the Pacific theater. He developed an Armed Guard Training Device at the Newport Naval Training Station. This device was manufactured at the Armed Guard Center, at the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard and used during the war. After the war he worked in Chicago for SoundScriber, was Vice President of Vendall Company and was a licensed real estate broker. In 1954 he purchased Happy Landing Cottages on Paugus Bay from his mother, Myra. Pat and his wife Helen developed and ran the resort in Laconia, NH for 43 years. Pat was very active in the Lakes Region as Chairman of the Resort Division for the Laconia-Weirs Beach Chamber of Commerce and later served as President. Pat was well known in Laconia as an accomplished artist and muralist. He retired at 85 and moved to Nokomis,FL in 1999 where he authored a book about his service during WWII and a another about his personal history including many of his own essays, poems and caricatures of friends and well known personalities. Pat and his wife Helen were happily married for 63 years. Those left to cherish the memory of this great man are his children Sharon ""Kelley"" Anderson, William T ""Bill"" Kelley and Laurie Kelley Nelson. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Amanda Schofield Jenkins, Kate Schofield Frerichs, Thomas Kelley and four great grandchildren. A private burial with military honors will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota, FL, www.tidewell.org.
