Cynthia Dusty R. Shutt
November 28th, 1956 - December 6th, 2021
Cynthia Dusty R. Shutt, age 65, of Colorado Springs, Colorado went home to her savior Jesus on December 6, 2021 at Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado after a short illness.She was born on November 28, 1956 in Indianapolis, Indiana where she lived with her birth family for five years before she and her siblings were put into foster care. Dusty and her next younger half-sister were adopted when Dusty was age 6 by Edwin F. and Helen Rhodes of Mishawaka, Michigan.After the family moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas, Dusty attended South Side High School and graduated in 1975.She went on to earn a degree in Physical Education from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois graduating with the class of 1979 in December 1978.In college, at a school mixer, Dusty met and later fell in love with Craig Shutt of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, marrying him following her graduation.Dusty worked at a number of jobs always working on her artistic endeavors.After moving to the Chicago suburbs, Dusty earned an associate's degree in fashion design from College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois going on to start a resort wear manufacturing business selling clothing in boutiques around Lake Michigan.Dusty was an active member of The Springs Vineyard of Colorado Springs where she served as teacher and wherever opportunity presented itself.Most recently Dusty was the founder and driving force for The Pearl Merchants at Horse Alley Studio. Up to her illness Dusty also served as secretary for the Old Colorado City Association.She is preceded in death by her father, Edwin F. Rhodes; her mother, Helen Rhodes; her brothers, Charles Sprague and Thomas Rhodes; and her sister, Mary Lisa Rhodes.Dusty is survived by her husband, Craig Shutt; her foster son, Ira LeRoy Fultz of Helena, Oklahoma; her brothers, Christopher Rhodes of Fortville, Indiana and Eric Rhodes of Little Rock, Arkansas; and her sisters, Priscilla Stevens of Sault Saint Marie, Michigan and Stephanie Buck, McKinney, Texas.Memorial contributions in Dusty's memory may be made to the Springs Rescue Mission (www.springsrescuemission.org/waystohelp)Celebration of Dusty's Life,1:00PM, Saturday, December 18, 2021, The Springs Vineyard, 4651 Centennial Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919.Inurnment will be in Mellinger's Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
