D. Richard Ensor, age 69, passed away on November 23rd at his home in Englewood Florida. Born a citizen of the United Kingdom to Dr. & Mrs. Gordon Ensor of Croydon, Surrey, England, he studied at Whitgift School, Croydon and Ashridge College. He attended Harvard Business School in 1979 and became a US Citizen in 1984. He began his career with James Pascall (Cadbury Ltd.) and subsequently joined Gillette Industries before joining, in 1964, the leading Swiss aromatic chemicals company, Firmenich, based in London. In 1976 he transferred to the American subsidiary in Princeton, New Jersey as Vice President, Flavor Division. Later, in 1986, he took the appointment of Corporate VP Global Flavors at the Swiss Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1992, Richard returned to the US headquarters and held the position of VP, International Business Development. Here he used his international business experience and long-standing customer relations to link the global operations of the company more efficiently with key global business units and client partnerships. Five years prior to retirement, Richard moved to Toronto as President/General Manager of Firmenich of Canada. He retired to Florida in 2002, after a career spanning 38 years with Firmenich Incorporated. Richard also continued consulting activities after retirement and served on the Strategic Alliance Advisory Board of David Michael & Company, Philadelphia. Pa. Richard led a full and active retirement life filled with many of life’s pleasures. He was an avid golfer, a prolific writer of beautiful prose and poetry. He loved classical music. His British gardening skills are viewed and enjoyed by many on the Boca Royale golf course. After 38 years experience in an industry of flavors and fragrances, he developed a superb sense of gustation and olfaction. This talent transcended into much research and wine collecting, and intimate, educational, wine tastings and dinners for many family, friends and colleagues. Richard was a generous, kind-hearted man, of keen intellect, who had a positive outlook on life, always. His generosity extended beyond his family to community service where he served as a Health Care Volunteer of Venice in the Emergency Room, Venice Regional Medical Center. Patients were always greeted by his warm and compassionate personality. Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Bernadine, a son Ross of Omaha, Nebraska, a brother, David Ensor of Budleigh Salterton, Devon, England, and a sister Elisabeth Pylypiak of Exeter, Devon. In addition he leaves behind an extended family of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Mary Gramata and husband Joseph, Pottstown, PA; Anna Grusetskie, Sugarloaf, PA; Nicholas Goydish II and wife Rosemarie, Freehold, NJ; Bernard L Goydish Sr. and dear friend Anne Byron, Princeton, NJ, and many admiring nieces and nephews. Richard Ensor was a gentleman of the highest order and will be greatly missed. Funeral arrangements are private.
