Do unto others as you would have them do unto you; be kind; be thrifty; keep learning, and always have a pun ready!

Dale was born July 21, 1935, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, the eldest child of Henry and Agnes LeNoue (Hank and Ag). The family lived in the small town of Kent, Minnesota. Dale grew up with lots of cousins, aunts and uncles, a younger sister, Connie, and a younger brother, Wayne. His favorite pastimes growing up were skating and sledding in winter on Whiskey Creek and playing in summer in his backyard and the woods. Dale’s father owned the General Store, where Dale often helped. He and his family went to St. Thomas Catholic Church every Sunday.

When Dale reached high school age, he attended Breckenridge High School. He was the placekicker for the football team, which is where he earned the nickname "Twinkle Toes". He graduated from BHS in 1953; that year he was voted "Best Dressed" in the high school yearbook. Shortly after graduating, he rode with a family friend out to Colorado Springs, Colorado and fell in love with the mountains and the climate; so he got a job in Colorado Springs and convinced his family to move there too. He decided to enter the field of psychology, obtaining an Associate's degree from Pueblo Community College, a Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado Boulder, a Master's degree from Denver University, and eventually a Doctorate from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. While in college, he helped construct a dormitory for the Air Force Academy one summer, and he served in campus and regional leadership for the Newman Club, a nationwide Catholic students ministry.

It was after interning in a state hospital in Elgin, Illinois that Dale met the love of his life, Emily Weberg (also a psychologist), and they were married October 19, 1963 in Jolliet, Illinois. Two daughters came along: Lisa in 1965 and Laura in 1967. After Dale completed his doctoral work, the family moved to Denver, Colorado, where a daughter and son were born: Sara in 1968 and Jon in 1970. Dale worked for several neighborhood health centers and eventually became Chief Psychologist at Denver General Hospital (now Denver Health Medical Center). During his years at Denver General, he helped start a psychology internship program, and he ultimately selected and mentored around 80 interns; he loved that part of his job. Dale served as President of the Colorado Psychological Association in 1981-82 and also had a private counseling practice for many years. The part of his work that gave him the most satisfaction was helping people change, grow, and solve problems.

Dale was a hard-working, devoted, fun-loving father and husband as well as a loyal friend. He had an active sense of humor, often sharing jokes, puns, and chuckles about the funny parts of life. He loved downhill skiing from the moment he first tried it while in college - he personally taught all his children how to ski, and he skied until he was 84. He also loved reading (especially spy novels), painting (primarily landscapes), many types of music (particularly classical), and socializing and conversing with friends and family (he and Emily had the gift of hospitality and hosted countless parties, gatherings, and holidays). Dale and Emily both loved the Colorado Rocky Mountains; they bought a condo in Frisco (Summit County) in the early 70's, and the family enjoyed many weekends and vacations there skiing, fishing, hiking, and biking. Dale and Emily also both loved to travel; they took trips to Europe, Turkey, China, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal as well as many different states around the US. After they both retired in 2000, they moved from Denver down to Castle Rock where they actively participated in the Sacred Heart Catholic Retreat Center congregation for 20+ years and formed many special friendships. They also took classes through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Dale even taught several different OLLI classes from Current Events to Science Fiction, earning the title “Master Facilitator” within the OLLI organization.

When asked several years ago what his life motto was, he said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you; be kind; be thrifty; keep learning, and always have a pun ready!" He lived out that motto until the very end of his life, even during his last 10 months while in hospice care due to cardiac amyloidosis. While at Liberty Heights Skilled Nursing in Colorado Springs, Dale departed this earth for his heavenly home on July 14, 2024.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years; his sister; and his brother.

He is survived by all 4 of his children; 2 sons-in-law and 1 daughter-in-law; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandsons. In a last act of generosity and love of learning, he donated his body to medical science research through the State Anatomical Board at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 7th, at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 10675 Jaguar Drive, Lone Tree, CO 80124.

Lunch will be served at a reception directly after the service at 11 am
