In Loving Memory of Dan Dunn
June 22, 1956 – June 17, 2024
With heavy hearts but cherished memories, we say goodbye to a brilliant man. A problem-solver who approached life with ingenuity, humor, and an irrepressible spirit. Born with a knack for turning every challenge into an opportunity, he was known as the real-life MacGyver among his family and friends.
Born in Texas, to Bob and Patsy Dunn, his muti-passion life started in elementary school with the Fire Patrol, Future Farmers of America, Appaloosa Club and Texas Readers Club, among many others. He did all of this with perfect attendance.
His passions spanned from the skies to the seas. From piloting airplanes to exploring the depths of the ocean while scuba diving, and capturing life’s fleeting moments through his camera lens. His curiosity and zest for life was boundless. While his saxophone skills were debatable, his ability to captivate a room with his masterful storytelling and prankster sense of humor were unmatched.
He was not just a problem-solver; he was a pioneer of possibility. Whether crafting intricate inventions or envisioning solutions to everyday challenges, his mind was a marvel of ingenuity and innovation. His ability to turn concepts into reality inspired all who knew him.
His greatest achievement, however, was his family. Married to the love of his life, Karen, for 47 wonderful years, they were a true team in life and best friends. He was a tremendous father, role model, pillar of strength and a source of endless love to his daughters and their husbands, Misty & Tyler Dollard, Stephanie & Jeremy Gray. His grandchildren, Montana (husband Dallas), Tayler and Jaden, knew him as “Pop” and he was eager to teach them all he could about machinery, fishing, flying and that Santa was in fact real, since he visited them every Christmas day. His great-grandchildren Noah and Austin, made his whole world when they said “Pop” as one of their first words. His faithful canine companion, Daisy, was obsessed with him, just as much as he was with her. Their morning golf cart rides looking for bunnies, evening snuggles on the couch and circles of excitement when he would come home were the highlights of his and her days.
His legacy lives on in the work ethic, creativity and love he shared with us all. His stories will be retold for generations, each tale more embellished and cherished than the last. Let us celebrate his life and legacy with joy, knowing that his spirit continues to inspire us to approach life with humor, resilience, and boundless curiosity. In lieu of tears, he would want us to share a joke, embark on a new adventure, or hug our loved ones a little tighter.
He is survived by his wife Karen Dunn, children Misty Dollard, Stephanie Gray, grandchildren Montana, Tayler, Jaden, and great grandchildren Noah, and Austin. As well as his mother Pasty Dunn and brother David Dunn.
Preceded in death by his father Bob Dunn, his brother Dean Dunn and his best friend David Dove.
A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on June 29th, 2024 at Vance Brand Airport. In honor of his memory, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, continuing his legacy of compassion and care.
