Darleen "Dar" J. Ziells, 62, of Culver died Friday, May 8, 2009 at home after a brief illness. She was born July 5, 1946 in Stoke-on-Trent, England to Robert and Joan Weeks. In 1947 she came to the United States with her family on the Queen Mary. Dar graduated from Guilford High School in Rockford, Ill. She married Eugene Ziells on October 30, 1982 and they made their home in Evansville, Wisc. at a century country farmette for the past 25 years. Dar worked for Union Bank and Trust in Evansville from 1983 until retiring on July 31, 2008. Gene and Dar moved to their new home in Culver in August of 2008. Dar enjoyed cooking and reading cookbooks, cross stitching, antiquing, and fishing. She especially loved flower gardening. She had upwards of 25 varieties of daylilies. She enjoyed traveling with Gene and touring in their 1925 Buick Roadster and Sedan. Dar loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, her extended family in Minnesota and her beloved pugs. She enjoyed watching Gene's nephews dirt track racing at Proctor and Barnum and watching NASCAR races. Dar was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Eugene; children, Christopher O'Connor of Boulder, Colo., Jason (Daria) O' Connor of Janesville, Wisc., Heather (Jon) Benash of Belleville, Wisc., and Karoline Ziells of Madison, Wisc.; her brother, Rob (Linda) Weeks of Cataula, Georgia; and seven grandchildren, Owen, Ava, Brody, Kaylee, Jacob, Emily, and Nick. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in the Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Burial was in Solway Cemetery in Solway Township.
