David John McVey of Englewood, Florida, passed away. He was 63 years old being born in Lorain, Ohio November 3, 1951. David graduated from Lorain Admiral High School, class of 1970. He graduated from Lorain County Community College in 1987 with an Associate of Arts degree. He also attended Ohio University in Athens and The Ohio State University in Columbus. David was employed by United States Steel Corporation, Lorain Works, for over 30 years, retiring in 2012. He worked in the warehouse in the shipping department. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local 1104, and served as the benefits representative, training coordinator and incentive committee chair. He always helped out, including working the hot dog stand at the annual Lorain County Labor Day Picnic and helped in coordinating the Do The Right Thing Festival for the schoolchildren of Lorain, Ohio, along with many others. He gave many hours to steelworkers all across the country by attending events, marches and rallies. He attended many meetings representing Local 1104 in Pittsburgh, PA. David received a commemorative letter from President Barack H. Obama congratulating him for his 30 plus years of continuous service with US Steel. David was a very fair person and would give you the shirt off his back and if he could not do that he would find a shirt for you. He believed in equality and fairness for all. He was a member of the ACLU for many years. David's interests included golfing, photography, pottery, gardening, boating, perch harvesting, sitting in the sun, taking car rides, eating ice cream and rebuilding his TR-6. He enjoyed caring for his homes in Vermilion, Ohio and Englewood, Florida. Antiquing with his wife and attending craft shows were also interests. He enjoyed wildlife and supported The Sierra Club. He was a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, along with the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers. He was always ready for a good debate and was a longtime friend of Bill Wilson. In sickness and in health David was devoted to his loving wife of 22 years, Pamela R. (nee Nemeth) who survives him. He also leaves behind his father and brother, Jack and Dan McVey, both of Lorain, Ohio; sister-in-law Nancy Merk (Gary, deceased), brother-in-law Mark Tscherne (Ruth Ann), nieces and nephews, along with aunts, an uncle and cousins and many other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Florence McVey (nee' Ellis) in 2008 and father- and mother-in-law, Joseph L. and Elvira A. Nemeth. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts if desired may be made in David's name, specifically to Catholic Charities LORAIN FAMILY CENTER, 203 Eighth Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052. You are free now sweetheart; take the rest you so earned and deserve. Bunches and Bunches Forever. Services were held privately for the family.
