Delilah Gaufin Moore
March 22nd, 1912 - July 9th, 2010
Delilah G. Moore, 98, of North Port, FL, died on July 9, 2010. Delilah was born and raised in Escanaba, Mi. She graduated from Escanaba High School in 1930. Following high school, she attended Cloverland Commercial College in Escanaba. Because Jobs were very scarce in Escanaba, she moved along with her brother Leslie to Washington D.C. where she accepted Federal Government employment with the newly created Federal Trade Commission as a Secretary/Stenographer. In 1943 she met her future husband Edmund at Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington. He was in the Army stationed in Washington, DC. They were married in 1944. Following Edmund’s discharge from the Army, They moved to East Lansdowne, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia. In 1945, she gave birth to identical twins Robert and Richard. In 1948, she resumed her federal government career. She was a Secretary/Stenographer for several Federal Government Agencies before retiring with the Soil Conservation Service in 1968 with over 30 years Federal Service. In 1971, she began employment at the Atlantic County Soil Conservation Offices in Mays Landing, New Jersey as the Secretary for County Agriculture Agent Charles Dupree. During the 1950’s and 60’s the family enjoyed visiting their summer cottage just outside of Mays Landing on Weymouth Road. After her sons graduated from college in the late 1960’s, Delilah and her Husband Edmund, lived in several places, including Mays Landing, NJ, and later Hammonton, NJ where she was a member of Hammonton Presbyterian Church. In 1977, they moved part time to North Port Florida where they spent more time each year becoming full time Florida residents in 1980. Delilah was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in North Port. She was also a member of the National Association of Federal Employees (NARFE). Delilah was a loving mother and friend who would listen to the complaints of others while rarely complaining herself. She always let the world’s problems roll off of her back. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Edmund and sister Hazel Jensen of Goshen, Indiana and North Port and brother Leslie Gaufin of North Port. Survivors include her twin sons, Robert Moore and Richard Moore.
