Dolores Jean Bohlsen Wascher
June 30th, 1930 - April 14th, 2022
Dolores Jean Bohlsen Wascher was born June 30, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska to Paul and Helen (Huster) Bohlsen. She grew up in Omaha and moved to Chicago, Illinois as a teenager. Dolores graduated from Morton High School in Cicero, Illinois in 1948. She attended Valparaiso University for one year before returning to Chicago to care for her mother. Dolores married her high school sweetheart, Robert Wascher, on July 12, 1952. The hymn they used for their wedding processional was "Let Us Ever Walk with Jesus" and that is what they did together for over sixty-nine years! They helped start Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lynchburg, Virginia where they lived, worked and raised their three daughters. Dolores was an active volunteer at the church, several community groups and the girls' schools. She also worked in the library at Randolph Macon Women's College. When they moved to Akron, Ohio, Dolores became an active member of the Akron Symphony Guild and a dedicated volunteer at Fairlawn Lutheran Church.Dolores was an outgoing, friendly "people person." She had the gift of hospitality and enjoyed welcoming people to her home and the church. Dolores loved music and was an accomplished pianist and organist. She played the organ at her church and sang in the choir. She was a voracious reader, active traveler and enjoyed sewing, doing tole painting and making stained glass windows. Dolores is survived by her husband, Robert Wascher; her three daughters, Judy (Thomas) Novack, Diane (Michael) Hummon and Susan Duven; grandchildren, Bryan (Paige) Novack, Laura (Andy) Andrews, Scott (Laurel) Novack, Douglas Hummon, Paul Hummon, Alexander Duven, Katherine Duven and Madeline Duven; great grandchildren, Blakelyn and Heather Novack, Cecilia, Teresa, Tripp and Rosie Andrews, and Isabelle, Mitchell, Harrison and Anderson Novack.Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; and her son-in-law, William Duven.Memorial Service, 1:00PM, Friday, May 20, 2022, First Lutheran Church, 1515 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Memorials in Dolores' memory may be given to the American Heart Association, First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or Lutheran Hour Ministries.
