Donald Daniel Haro
June 13th, 1936 - March 18th, 2021
Donald Daniel Haro of Cloquet, passed away peacefully in his sleep in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the age of 84. He was born in Gackle, ND on June 13, 1936 to Amos and Julia Haro and was raised in Carlton County. Don attended Kalevala Grade School in Kettle River and graduated from Barnum High School in 1954. He married Norma Maki on February 15, 1957, whom he met while attending Kalevala Grade School. Don served in the United States Air Force from 1955 - 1959. Don and Norma lived in Cloquet most of their adult lives before relocating to Central Florida in 1986 and returning to Cloquet in 2019. He worked at Conwed Corporation in Cloquet for 31 years and then at Qualtest in Orlando, FL until his retirement. Don had a strong faith in God and while in Cloquet, Don and Norma attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church for many years where Don served as Treasurer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood-working and could fix almost anything. Don was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins since their inception in the early 1960s. In Cloquet, he enjoyed bowling league and once rolled a near perfect 297. While living in Florida, he played golf, pickle ball and enjoyed cruise ship trips with Norma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Julia Haro; grandson, Kurtis James Blake; and brothers-in-law, Jonas Heikkila and Bob Kresal. Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma; son, Steve (Terese Mallory) Haro; daughters, Mary (Robert) Soyring, Patti (Jack) McTigue and Anna (Jerry) Blake; sisters, Beatrice Heikkila and Edna Kresal; seven grandchildren, Jenikka (Josh) Tomashek, Anja (Dustin) Hovde, Kiera (Ian) Reese, Hannah McTigue, Elijah McTigue, Daniel (Jessie) Blake and Kaisa (Corbin) Fuller; five great grandchildren, Desmond and Dawson Hovde, Boden Blake, Jori Tomashek and Maija Fuller; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service, Thursday, March 25, 2021 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Masks are required. From the parking lot the service may be heard by tuning to 98.3. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Eagle Lake Cemetery, Eagle Township, MN. Memorials may be made to Kurt Blake Scholarship Fund, Attn: Linda Karttunen, Ontonagon Area Schools, 701 Parker Avenue, Ontonagon, MI 49953.
