Donald "Don" Paul Snell
February 10th, 1940 - May 15th, 2018
Donald (“Don”) Paul Snell, husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend to all, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, with his loved ones surrounding him. Born in Washington, DC, on February 10, 1940, he was the eldest son of the late Cecil D. Snell and Mary C. Snell. Don grew up in the Virginia/DC area. He was a proud veteran having served in the US Air Force from 1958 to 1962. He fell in love and married his life-long partner, Lorena, on July 16, 1966. They lived in Lynchburg, Virginia for over 38 years where they raised their family surrounded by a community that they loved. Don enjoyed spending time with his family first and foremost, especially fishing with his grandchildren, dancing, and celebrating the Holidays. Most recently, he loved watching movies and the news on TV with his furry friend Maggie Mae at his side. His hobby was tinkering and fixing old stuff … he always had a “honey-do list”. He was strong in his faith having been a Member of The Church of Christ in Lynchburg, VA, and served as a Deacon for many years while they lived there. They recently had moved to Mooresville, NC, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Don is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lorena M. Snell, and their three children James Snell, of Bunker Hill WV; Stephanie Justice, of Cornelius NC and Michael Snell, of Rock Hill, SC. He is also survived by the unconditional love of his seven grandchildren Britney Brewer, Alexandra Justice, Hunter Justice, Jamie Snell, Jake Snell, Jade and Jodie Snell; four great-grandchildren Matthew Brewer, Maddy Brewer, Noah Brewer and Maple Brewer; and three wonderful in-laws Dr. Izzy Justice; Becky Snell and Matt Brewer. He was preceded in death by his two siblings June Shurbet and Steve Snell. A viewing will be held from 12 pm to 2 pm on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the Church of Christ at 1132 Sandusky Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502. A “celebration of life” service will follow immediately at 2 pm followed by the burial graveside at Virginia Memorial Cemetery at 11490 Forest Road, Forest, VA 24551, where he will be laid to rest next to his mother, Mary C. Snell. Diuguid Funeral Service and Crematory, Waterlick Chapel, 434-237-2722, is in charge of arrangements. On-line condolences may be sent to www.diuguidfuneralservice.com.
