Donna Mae Hakala went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 24, 2016 int St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, MN. Donna was born April 19, 1933 to Albert (Pete) and Agnus Curtiss in Cohasset, Minnesota. She grew up in West Cohasset and married Orville Burlison in 1950. Together they had 2 children, Allen (Joe) and Linda Burlison. Donna worked at various jobs as a waitress and also as a home health aid. Her passions were gardening, crocheting, canning and spending time with family and her grandchildren. Donna married Willard Hakala in June of 1973. They were married for 42 years. They spent their time between Cohasset and Floodwood, MN, and moved permanently to Floodwood after retirement. Donna loved her family and grandchildren and had a very special bond with her oldest grandson Wayne. Donna, who is better known as Granny, was preceded in death by her parents, Albert (Pete) and Agnus Curtiss, her brother Albert Jr. (Doone), and her beloved daughter Linda. She is survived by her husband Willard of 42 years, sister Doris Berg of Palisade, son Allen (Joe) and wife Tamie of Deer River, grandsons, Wayne and his wife Carol Burlison of Floodwood, Joshua and Jarrod Burlison, Grand Rapids, Cody and Clayton Burlison of Deer River, great grandchildren Alyssa Burlison of Ely, and Matthew Burlison Olson of Boise, Idaho. She will also be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews and special friends. Her funeral will be held Saturday, April 2nd at St. Louis Catholic Church in Floodwood, MN at 11 a.m., visitation beginning at 10 a.m. She will rest with her daughter Linda at Itasca Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.
