Dorothy "Dot" Rae Sheffield Beal Barkley

Dorothy Barkley, 84, passed from this life on Friday, November 2, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, leaving a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.She was born December 10, 1933 at home in Moore County, North Carolina to Celia Ann Sheffield and Leland Lewis. She was raised and attended school in Robbins, North Carolina.Two men were blessed to be married to Dorothy; they were Johnny Albert Beal and Paul Barkley, Jr. She gave birth to six children.Other than North Carolina, she also resided in Alabama, Georgia, Alaska and Colorado. Dorothy worked various jobs to support her family. She was employed by Stedman, Proctor Silex, and as a civilian food service worker for the government.Known as Ms. Dot to many, Dorothy loved to talk with family and friends and to express her love and concerns. She loved her pets, the snow-covered mountains of Colorado, growing her plants, taking road trips, and listening to good music on the radio. She loved God and trusted Him through many health challenges in her life; stating that He led her by the hand. She spent the last year of her life at the Sunny Vista Living Center, in Colorado Springs, where she had many friends and was dearly cared for by the Center's staff.Dorothy is preceded in death by both of her parents; her son, Michael Beal; her daughter, Karen Beal; and three brothers, Harold Sheffield, Junior Woodard, and Gary Woodard. She is survived by two brothers, Benny Sheffield and Ernest Sheffield of Robbins, North Carolina; four daughters, Saundra (Ken) Powell of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Annette (Jeff) Clark of Leesville, Louisiana, Trisha (Bruce) Imig of McKinney, Texas, and Christy (Randy) Espinoza of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many extended family members.Memorial Service, 11:00AM, Friday, December 28, 2018, Restoration Church, 9355 Peaceful Valley Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925.
