Dorothy Anne Dyer passed away peacefully on September 30, 2012 at The Parker Manor in Parker, Colorado at the age of 91 after residing for over 40 years in her home in Denver. She was born on March 28, 1921 in Los Angeles, CA to Clarence and Margaret (Stackhouse) Cain, two prominent Denver families. Dorothy moved several times as a young child before finally returning to Denver with her mother. She graduated from East High School in Denver and shortly after graduation met her future husband, Ted. After a four year courtship she travelled several days by train to marry Frederick W. Dyer (Ted) in September 1942 in Columbia, South Carolina where her husband was stationed before flying with his bomber group to Europe in World War II. She returned to Denver until 1945 when her husband returned from WWII. Dorothy was a stunning beauty with a witty sense of humor. She was a gifted artist and talented pianist and later in her life she became interior decorator. She was also an accomplished seamstress and fabulous cook. Her four children, twelve grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren, were the light of her life. Holidays and birthday celebrations were magical, creating wonderful memories for her family. Dorothy was a dedicated Air Force wife, picking up and moving with her children and husband over a dozen times including Texas, Virginia, Germany , France, South Carolina, Missouri , with stops in between ,and finally back to Denver where she and her husband retired after 30 years of service. She is survived by her four children, Annette Marie Dobias, and her children, Kathleen Dobias Sterling,Travis Dobias (Stephanie) and Joey Dobias (Miki); Kathleen Christine Riley, (Bruce), and their children, Katrina Zakhem (John) and Scott Riley (Kristen);Frederick James Dyer (Donna) and his children, Annette Van Vleet (Jack), Wendy Frost (Chris), and Megan Macaluso (Joey);Theodore Wolfin Dyer (Cindy) and their children, Geoffrey Dyer ( Lori), Jenny Grimm (Jay) ; Greg Dyer (Joan) and Garrett Dyer. She is also survived by her half- brother, Terry Gustafson. Her husband, Col. Dyer preceded her in death. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 2:30pm Staging Area B, Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.
