Douglas Leroy McFarland Sunrise: May 6, 1922 Sunset: May 11, 2011 Douglas passed away on May 11, 2011 @ Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after fighting a brave 9 months of bladder cancer. He was born on May 6, 1922 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Ella Cousins. At an early age he met his future wife, Betty ?Lib? at their elementary school. He served in the US Army during World War 2. After retirement he worked in waste management, then as a store clerk for many years on the peninsula. He loved gardening and keeping his yard nice and green. He loved to spend time with family and his grandchildren. He loved to watch baseball and play lotto. He was a great jokester. Douglas is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty McFarland of Seaside, CA; five daughters, Carol Jackson of Sun City, AZ, Katherine Harper of Maryland, Lillian McFarland of Marina, CA, Shirley Edwards of Marina, CA, and Charlene Terrell of Orange County, CA; two sons, Ira Beyah of Monterey, CA and Anthony McFarland of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by three nieces, Tykie Johnson, Bertlynn Harvey, Sheila Woodson; one nephew, John Cousins; 29 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren. Douglas was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Ella and Glade Cousins; two sisters, Maxine Jenkins and Sharon Cousins; two sons, Robert McFarland and Sanford Harland; three daughters, Beverly Johnson, Josephine McFarland and Ruby Hall. Visitation: Monday, May 16th from 2:00 ? 6:00 p.m. at Seaside Funeral Home, 1915 Ord Grove Avenue, Seaside, California. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17th at the funeral home.

For almost 100 years, our cemetery has served the residents of the Monterey Bay Area. Mission Memorial Park opened in 1934 as Mission Memorial Cemetery and for many years was run by the City of Monterey. In 1988, Monterey Peninsula Mortuary opened on the grounds of our beautiful Seaside location. In 2007 we closed our Chapel of Seaside at our Noche Buena location and merged the two to become Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park....
