Douglas Salmon, 86, passed away peacefully at his home July 9 after a brief illness. He was born in Brewster, New York, the adopted son of Orrin and Violet Salmon. He joined the Army as a teenager. It was there, through tutoring other soldiers, he discovered his love of teaching. 

 

After his discharge he attended and graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a degree in Education followed by a Masters in Arts from Fairfield University. He spent 35 years teaching primary grades in Las Vegas, Nevada and Putnam County, N.Y.

 

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and The Lions Club of Connecticut where he served as a radio announcer for the blind. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, daughter Natalie, sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Monte Redman, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Ellen O’Connor. A private interment will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery.
