Dr. Pete Cassidy

Dr. Pete Cassidy, 74, passed away August 4, 2018 at his residence. Born in Bethune, SC, Nov. 3, 1943, he was the son of the late Arthur and Edith Talbert Cassidy. He was a Baptist pastor for over 54 years. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Cayce First Baptist Church with burial in Southland Memorial Gardens, directed by Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Visitation will be 1:00-2:45 p.m., prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of over 54 years, Ann Woodle Cassidy of Dillon; son, Art Cassidy (Sophie) of Kennesaw, GA; son, Greg Cassidy (April) of Cayce, SC; sister, Shirley Cassidy Pace (Bill) of Darlington; grandchildren, Brandon and Haley Cassidy of Cayce, Kirsten and Addison (Cierra) Cassidy of Kennesaw, GA and Heather Cassidy Smith (Corey) of Acworth, GA; great-grandchildren Riley and Rosaleigh Cassidy and Jaxon Smith. Dr. Cassidy was predeceased by his brothers, Rev. Ray Cassidy and T.R. Cassidy. Dr. Cassidy double majored in English and Religion at Coker College. He received his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Luther Rice Seminary. He was a member of First Baptist Columbia. He served as pastor at Westfield Creek Baptist, Mt. Olive Baptist, Mt. Calvary Baptist, Lucas Avenue Baptist and State Street Baptist. He also served as interim pastor at White Knoll Baptist and Cayce First Baptist until the time of his death. Dr. Cassidy was also active in Kiwanis, ENA, and various City of Cayce committees. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cayce First Baptist, 600 Holland Ave., Cayce, SC; or Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800.
