Edith M. Riedel
June 4th, 1915 - November 17th, 2006
Edith M. Riedel came to North Port, Florida one year ago from East Islip, N.Y. She was born on June 4, 1915 in New Haven, Connecticut. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Arthur A. Riedel. Edith retired in 1976 from the East Islip School District where she was employed first in the cafeteria and finally as a matron in the custodial dept. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the East Islip Fire Department and also a member of the Auxiliary of the Islip Lion’s Club. Edith was a devoted Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Aunt and friend. Her main passion was her family. Her daughters will remember her for her hours of sewing costumes for their twirling competitions. They will remember her always going the extra mile for anything that was important to them. Her nieces and nephews will remember her for being there for them. She was a truly caring person. Her Grandchildren and many friends will remember her crocheting doilies, tablecloths, bedspreads and stuffed animals. We all remember her quick wit and sense of humor, which she never lost and her unselfish devotion to us. We are grateful for the 91 wonderful years that she touched our lives. Rest peacefully dear Mother, Grandmother, Nanna and friend. You are missed. She is survived by three daughters, Signa Marie Scanlon and husband Gerald of Brooksville, Florida, Carol Ann Biunno and husband Michael of Bay Shore, New York, and Bette Louise Lewis of North Port, Florida, seven grandchildren, Robert Alan Scanlon and wife Nancy of Oneanta, New York, Terri Louise Scanlon and husband Grey Lyons of Yardley, Pennsylvania, Carol Joy Snedicor and husband Robert of Sayville, New York, Valerie Claire Hurt and husband Steve of Oxnard, California, Holly Anne Howarth and husband Jim of Port Charlotte , Florida, Bonnie Marie Parker and husband Mike of Port Charlotte, and Cindy Jean Kapusta and husband Shane of North Port, Florida, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
