COLUMBIA-Funeral Mass for Elba Iris Carrero, 94, will be celebrated on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 3600 Devine Street, Columbia SC, 29205 with Monsignor Richard Harris officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Farewell Prayers and Final Commendation will be at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 on Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 6 PM until 8 PM. The Rosary will be recited at 6 PM on the day of the visitation. Pallbearers will be Jason Carrero, Joseph Carrero, Robert Beddingfield, Trevor Dwyer, John Long and John Rotureau. Mrs. Carrero died Thursday, July 7, 2016. Born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico on December 22, 1921, Mrs. Carrero was the daughter of the late Carlos and Margarita (Alemañy) Marín. Mrs. Carrero was a homemaker who loved and always supported her husband during his 30 year military career. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and gardening, but most of all she enjoyed and loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Evelyne Beddingfield and a son, James A. Carrero (Maria) both of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Melissa Beddingfield of Atlanta, Michelle Brown (Ryan) of Columbia, Maria Pomainville (Paul) of Hawaii, Melanie Dwyer (Trevor) of Columbia, Robert Beddingfield (Bee) of North Carolina, Jason Carrero of Lexington, SC, and Joseph Carrero (Megan) of Lexington, SC; great-grandchildren, Rowan Waage, Evie Dwyer, Emma Brown, Lily Brown, William Joseph Carrero, Levi Dwyer, Aria Beddingfield and James David Carrero; sisters, Carmen Fishwick of Florida, Gladys Mendoza and Sylvia Marín of Puerto Rico, and a brother Luis Fernando Marín of Puerto Rico; numerous nieces and nephews of New York, Florida and Puerto Rico; and the many friends, especially the Amigos Hispanos, who she cared for and who loved her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years Jaime Carrero; a brother Victor Marín, and a sister Blanca Enríquez. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Haven in the Summit for their love, care and support of Ms. Elba during the past three years and also to the Tidewater Hospice and to All Seasons Hospice caregivers, nurses, and doctors. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3223 Sunset Blvd., Ste. 100, West Columbia, SC 29169 or a charity of one's choice.
