Elizabeth Gonzalez de Cruz

In loving memory of our beloved wife and mother Elizabeth Gonzalez de Cruz. Elizabeth joined our blessed Lord the morning of Friday, May 24, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Angel Luis Cruz Gerena. Elizabeth was born on Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on September 19, 1933. She arrived to Fort Ord, California in the Fall of 1958, joining her husband who was enlisted with the US Army. Elizabeth is also survived by 8 sons - Angel, Carlos, Roberto, Noe, Ramon, Ronaldo, Gabriel, and Juan and 4 daughters - Elizabeth, Rosa, Veronica and Paula. Her greatest joys were the many grand and great grandchildren that filled her life - 29 grand and 24 great (at last count). The family wishes to extend immense gratitude to all extended family and neighbors, as well as to the care provided by both CHOMP, the Westland House and Heartland Hospice. Our mother was a constant presence in each of her children's lives. She was extremely selfless, and incredibly giving with her time, support and her door was always as a place of retreat, comfort and amazing traditional Puerto Rican dishes she prepared every day until it was no longer possible to do so. Our hearts are broken, but we are constantly reminded of her immense love and the journey which awaits her. She will be forever missed but her smile, her love for each one of us, will never be forgotten. She planted a seed of faith, love and forgiveness that will sustain this ache of loss we are all currently enduring. Funeral Services will be held this Friday, May 31 at 10 am at Mission Mortuary 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey, CA.
