Ellen "Abby" Judith Volkert Erkkila, 74 of Cloquet passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019 in Solvay Hospice House in Duluth. She was born December 24, 1944 in Cloquet to Ben and Doris (Whitebird) Novacinski. Abby retired from Sappi after many years of working. She was a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. She enjoyed watching hummingbirds, flower gardening, cooking, baking, oil painting and other crafts. Abby was preceded in death by one son, Jesse Volkert; one daughter, Julie Ann Volkert; sister, Mary Ann Erickson; and brother, Gerald Novacinski. She is survived by her husband, Earl Erkkila; two sons, John Volkert Jr. and Jer (Deb) Volkert; sisters, Bunny (Ken) Jaakola and Beth Diver; brothers, Lee Tibbetts and Jeff (Sherry) Tibbetts; and three grandchildren, Nicolette and Tyler Volkert and Jeremiah Volkert. Gathering of family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a meal at 11:30 on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 in the Fond du Lac ENP.
