Ellene Viar McGlothlin,94, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018 at her home after an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Gilbert McGlothlin. Born March 23, 1924 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Massie Odell Viar and Clara Wilcher Viar. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She loved to travel with her husband on cruise ships around the world. Ellene loved to sew, especially making clothing for her family. She is survived by one son, Michael Verne McGlothlin and his wife, Debbie; two grandsons, Michael Brandon McGlothlin and his wife, Crystal, Jason Scott McGlothlin and his wife, Stephanie; one granddaughter, Whitney Blair McGlothlin; three brothers, Massie Viar (Marion) and Jimmie Viar of Lynchburg and Robert Viar (Janice) of Roanoke VA; three great granddaughters, Ashlyn, Kenady and Charlee McGlothlin ; two step- grandchildren, Emma and Nick Hartless; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Alan McGlothlin; two sisters, Edith McGlothlin and Katherine Elmore. The family wishes to thank Wanda Mays and Marie Fitzgerald for their dedicated and loving care given to Mrs. McGlothlin as well as the staff of CENTRA Hospice. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 20, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory, Waterlick Chapel, 237-2722, is serving the family.
