Ellsworth "Al" Valentine Fermenich, 85 of Cloquet died Thursday, September 25, 2008 in Chris Jensen Nursing Home in Duluth. He was born August 14, 1923 in Duluth to Valentine and Hazel Fermenich. Al grew up in Saginaw and graduated from Proctor High School. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. On Feb. 15, 1947, Al married Lorraine Tondryk in Cloquet. He worked for the Army Corp of Engineers before going to work as a boiler operator for the DM& IR Railroad. Al was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine on Feb. 4, 2008; sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Donald Watters. He is survived by his brothers-in-law, Larry (Marge) Tondryk of Esko and Frank Tondryk of Saginaw; sisters-in-law, Marlene (Richard) Kellett of Alabama and Patricia (Richard) Bosiacki of Hermantown; nieces and nephews, Diane Bednar, Chuck Elder, Steve Elder, and Donna Swanson. Funeral services were held on Monday, September 29, 2008 in Northland Funeral Home Chapel. A time of lunch and fellowship followed in the Fireside Room of the funeral home.
