Elly Victoria French, 90 of Proctor went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2011 in Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospice after her courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 18, 1921 in Kajasog, Sweden to Knute and Margareta Malmquist. She graduated from Denfeld High School. Elly married Robert James French on Feb. 8, 1947. She was a lifetime member of the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle where she taught Sunday School, played in the orchestra, was hostess for many years for the annual church convention, and loved being a "Sonshiner". Her enjoyment was working with her hands in the "French Gardens" and crocheting. She looked forward to her Thursday game day with her siblings. She had a million dollar smile, a twinkle in her eye, and prayed for her family and friends without ceasing. Elly was preceded in death by her husband, Robert French; and brother, Leonard Malmquist. She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Dave) Evers of Proctor, grandsons, Tony Evers of Cloquet and Cory (Kath) Evers of Proctor; great grandchildren, Travis, Chelsie, Bailey, and Cody Evers, and Ty Rabine; sister, Ruth (Ed) Molitor of Duluth; brother, Stan (Doris) Malmquist of Duluth; and sister-in-law, Eivor Malmquist of Sunnyvale, Calif. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the tender hearted caregivers of the St. Mary's Hospice Team. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 2, 2012 in the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle. Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
