Elsie Franz Goossen

July 20th, 1945 - March 22nd, 2013

Elsie Franz Goossen, who died on March 22, 2013, was born the fourth child of Alvin L. and Bertha Franz Goossen, on July 20, 1945. She was born in Colby, Kansas in the middle of wheat harvest. Elsie grew up on a farm in the Mingo area and attended the first eight grades of school in Oakley, Kansas. The parents moved to Newton in that summer of 1959 and Elsie continued her high school education at Berean Acadamy, Elbing, Kansas, graduating in the class of '63. The next four years were spent at Grace Bible Institute, (now Grace University) Omaha, Nebraska pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Education. Eventually she graduated from University of Phoenix with a degree in Business Administration. She developed her own business as a traveling book keeper, maintaining a circuit of small businesses to whom she traveled to do their financial books. Survivors include two brothers, Paul and wife Hildegard, of Rhinelander, Wisconsin and Alva and wife Earlene, of Vancouver, Washington and a sister Susie and husband Asher, of Elkhart, Kansas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, Jacob Barkman, and a sister-in-law, Linda Goossen. Service Information A service summary is not available

I will remember Aunt Elsie for her kindness in helping getting two of my children tested for gluten intolerance as it was the answer to their difficulties as well as some of the odd problems I had from time to time. She was a great help when we needed it.Mary Fohner

I will never forget her passion for research, her great travel stories, and her love for a great meal. I am so thankful that we were able to meet for lunch recently. She was a kind person who treated me with respect and I will never forget that. I will always be thankful for her presence in my life.
