Eugene David Mohr
February 16th, 1929 - December 17th, 2013
Eugene “Geno” David Mohr, age 84, of Colorado Springs, CO died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on December 17, 2013. Gene was born to John and Anna-Maria (Stehr) Mohr on February 16, 1929 in Lincoln, NE. Gene graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, NE in 1947. On December 8, 1950, Gene enlisted with the Army and was with the Battery “B” 675th Airborne Field Artillery Battalion, as a Parachute Jumper in Fort Campbell, KY. During this time, Gene received several leadership awards, including the “Army Presidential Unit Citation Award”. Gene received his Honorable Discharge on April 4, 1957. After high school, Gene worked for Western Electric in Lincoln, NE as an Installer from 1947 to 1949. It was while Gene was in high school that he started his career with the Burlington Northern Railroad. During high school, Gene worked part-time in the freight house. Then, before joining the Army, he worked full time in the mechanic department. In 1952, Gene worked full time as a conductor in Lincoln, NE and then later as a brakeman in Fremont, NE, where he retired in 1991, after 46 years of service. Gene is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jayne (Matejovich); three daughters, Gena (husband, Roger) Holbert of Maryville, TN, Robin (husband, Herman) Gerhardt of Beaumont, TX , Lonni (husband, Shannon) Morrissey of Fremont, NE; two sons, Randy Mohr of Lincoln, NE and Shane Mohr of Omaha, NE, seven grandchildren; Javan Schiferl, Grant and Annaliese Gerhardt, Isaac and Spencer Morrissey, and Danielle and Ashley Mohr; two loving sisters; Florence Malone and Frieda Bowes, both of Lincoln, NE and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by both of his parents, John and Anna-Maria and his two brothers, Walter and Dietrich. And his beloved dog, Frosty. Gene’s favorite time of year was Christmas, his hobby was tinkering and he had the best sense of humor. But mostly, we will not forget his great love for his family. A burial Service will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE on Friday, January 10,, 2014 at 1:30 pm. http://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/ftmcpherson.asp
