Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Faye Catherine "Cathi" Drake
May 15th, 1941 - June 27th, 2021
On the 27th of June, Faye Catherine “Cathi” Drake passed away peacefully in Venice, FL, surrounded by family and the love of dear friends. Cathi was a bright light to all who met her–she was friendly, kind-hearted, and encouraging. After graduating from high school in New Kensington, PA, she and a childhood friend set out for Washington DC, where she worked as a secretary for the US Navy. There, she met her future husband of 57 years, John, who was working down the hall as a summer intern. They married the next year and moved to Warren, OH, where they raised two daughters. Cathi led by example, instilling in them a sense of independence and persistence. She was a person of strong faith and utter devotion to family. Cathi was an avid reader who enjoyed outdoor activities: scuba diving, water-skiing, picnicking on nearby Mosquito Lake and camping with friends. She also enjoyed spending time with a close group of neighborhood friends collectively known as “The Buds.” Many happy memories were made from these outings! In 1972, she and John started Drake Manufacturing in their basement with Cathi as the Office Manager ⦠and so much more! Over 35 years, the business grew to 50 employees. Cathi and John had the wonderful opportunity to see the world as they traveled abroad developing their business. After retirement, a great joy continued to be traveling and spending time with old and new friends, family, and especially her grandsons. She and John also spent summers enjoying the beauty of Upper Michigan. Cathi was preceded in death by her parents Faye and Elmer Double and siblings Bill Double and Jayne Butterworth. She is survived by her husband, John, daughters Lisa (Rob Brumbaugh) and Karen (Rich Richardson), grandsons Spencer and Carter Richardson, and siblings Bob Double and Terri Phillippie. Cathi put everyone at ease with her smiling, encouraging manner (as well as the ability to talk to anyone about sports!). Everywhere she lived, Cathi developed deep and life-long friendships. As a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, relative, and friend, she will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Cathi's memory to Tidewell Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
