First Domingo R. Corpis

A Graveside service with Full Military Honors for First Sgt. Domingo R. Corpis, US Army (Ret.), 73, of Columbia, will be held 11 am on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209 has been entrusted with the arrangements. Mr. Corpis passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011. He was born October 24, 1937 in Honolulu, HI to the late Francisco and Honoria Corpis. Mr. Corpis served a 25 year career in the US Army with active duty in Korea and Vietnam, and was stationed in Hawaii, South Carolina and Germany. Among numerous honors, Mr. Corpis was the recipient of the Bronze Star. Following his military service, he worked with the SC Department of Corrections for 10 years prior to his retirement. Mr. Corpis was actively involved in his community. He volunteered his time with the Red Cross at Moncrief Hospital, as well as serving as a volunteer at Millcreek Elementary School. Mr. Corpis was also an active member of the VFW. Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Gisela M. Corpis; sons, Derek Corpis (wife, Cindy) of Columbia and Duane Corpis of Ithaca, NY; 2 grandsons, Preston A. Corpis and Hunter R. Corpis; a step-grandson, Kelsey Powell; 2 brothers, Vince Corpis (wife, Regina) of Honolulu, HI and Rod Corpis of Las Vegas, NV; and a sister, Rufina Freitas of Maui, HI. Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
