Florence Elizabeth Maki
July 9th, 1924 - September 12th, 2012
Florence Elizabeth Carlson Maki, 88 of Cloquet, formerly of Barnum died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet. She was born July 9, 1924 in Lawler to John and Vendla Carlson. The family moved to Cromwell in 1936. Florence worked for Northwest Airlines at the St. Paul Airport, Diamond Brand Match Mill in Cloquet and at the Barnum Creamery. Florence married Eino J. Maki on July 31, 1947 in Cromwell. Florence was a Corporal in the Army Air Corp during WWII. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell, a life member of the Carlton County Chapter #18 Disabled Veterans, the Minnesota Women Veterans, and a member of the Carlton VFW Post 2962 where she worked diligently to support and promote the VFW. She was the flag bearer during the Memorial Day Ceremonies. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Eino; a son, Alvan; two brothers, James and Reynold Carlson; nephews, Bruce and Robert Carlson; and brothers-in-law, Omer Lambert and Robert Darker. She is survived by her sisters, Doris Carlson of Cloquet, Lorraine Darker of Duluth, Elaine (Kenneth) Wallin of Esko, Jeanette (Ray) Worgren of Cloquet, and Nancy (Al) Anderson of Moose Lake; and several nieces and nephews, including her special nephew, Jim (Connie) Carlson Jr. of Barnum. Graveside Services were held on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 in Eagle Lake Cemetery in Cromwell. A time of lunch and fellowship followed in Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
