Florence Mary Opalewski

Florence Mary “Flo” Opalewski, 85, of Fort Atkinson passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at her home. Flo was born on March 24, 1938 in Milwaukee to Clarence and Anna (Wojtalewicz) Wessel. On January 25, 1985 Florence married Thomas Opalewski. For 25 years, Flo worked as a postal clerk at the Milwaukee Post Office. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, baking, and cooking. Flo also enjoyed going to the movies, going to the library, and going to book stores. She volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul of Fort Atkinson, where she would find bargains. She truly enjoyed her cats, which were mostly strays that came but never left. Florence took pride in working on projects at her final home by painting and restoring it to make it a home. Florence is survived by her husband, Thomas Opalewski; daughters, Ruth, Margaret, Carol, Suzanne, Joan; and grandchildren, Skyler, Jack, Abby, and Anna. Per Florence’s wishes, there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Humane Society of Jefferson Co. The family would like to give special thanks to family members for visiting and helping especially near the end. Also special thanks to Rainbow Hospice care for making Florence’s last days easier.
