It was the late spring day of May 1, 1929, in Carthage, Texas when Frankie Mae Carter first opened her eyes to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Nancy Carter. She was the last born of 8 siblings. Frankie or "Red" as they called her, because of her then red complexion, enjoyed her childhood sharing mischievous adventures with her closest sibling Leola Mae. During her childhood Frankie's family, migrated from Carthage to Beaumont and then to Galveston, Texas. One day between 1944 and 1947 while she attended Central High School in Galveston, Frankie was entering a class, heading for the teacher's desk when a "devilish" (Dad's word) young man stuck out his arm to prevent her from going by. This began Frankie's seventy year, relationship with her soul mate, Lionel Mosley. Frankie and Lionel married in 1949. Between 1952 and 1970 they produced 5 children: Lionel (Fort Ord, Ca), Ronald (Bad Cannstatt, Germany), Rhonda (Carthage, Tex.), Sandra (Monterey, Ca.) and Dewey (Fort Ord, Ca.). Frankie Mosley loved and cherished her children, enjoying the highs of their successes and giving support when they experienced challenges. During these eighteen plus years, Mrs. Mosley was not just raising children. Like many American housewives she embarked upon a career in the early 1960's. She secured a Civil Service position that would span thirty years. Frankie Mosley was a devout Christian who loved to worship. She and her family, initially joined Ocean View Baptist Church, in Seaside, California. They eventually migrated to Hays CME Church of Seaside. Frankie loved gospel music. Mahalia Jackson was her favorite gospel artist. She was an enthusiastic choir member. Her favorite hymn was "Too Close to Heaven". Frankie was a faithful member of the Missionary Society and Stewardess Board. Frankie was a true "Prayer Warrior". Her moving prayers over holiday meals were legendary. She truly loved the Lord and enjoyed conversing with him in prayer. Frankie lived a full life. She loved to dance, even if it was just at home with a few close friends. She enjoyed family outings, fishing, picnicking and weekend trips. Frankie placed a high value on education. She followed up her youthful discontinued college career at Wiley College in Texas, by attending and earning an AA Degree from Monterey Peninsula Junior College. After retirement from Civil Service, Frankie enjoyed the company of her grandchildren Kasey, Cori', Arthur, La'Rhonda, Solomon and Ko'Olina. Mrs. Frankie Mae Carter Mosley went to be with the Lord, Thursday July 14, 2016 at 8:07am. The memory of Frankie Mosley will passionately remain with us for the rest of our lives. She is preceded in departure by her parents, Peter and Nancy Carter, sisters Sarah and Gertrude, brothers Augustus, Johnny and George. She is survived by her husband Lionel Mosley, sons Lionel (Catherine), Ronald and Dewey (Osa), daughters Rhonda (Arthur des.) Waldrup and Sandra (Carl) Ashurst, six Grandchildren, brother Dr. Lamore Carter and sister Mrs. Leola May, along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Mission Memorial Park

For almost 100 years, our cemetery has served the residents of the Monterey Bay Area. Mission Memorial Park opened in 1934 as Mission Memorial Cemetery and for many years was run by the City of Monterey. In 1988, Monterey Peninsula Mortuary opened on the grounds of our beautiful Seaside location. In 2007 we closed our Chapel of Seaside at our Noche Buena location and merged the two to become Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park....
