Gene Beckner, age 87, February 10, 1929 – August 13, 2016. Gene has been reunited with his beloved wife, Joyce, who passed away in 2015. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he graduated from West Tech High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Gene and Joyce were married in 1954 and eventually settled in Akron, Ohio to raise their family. Gene worked in the insurance business as a regional manager with Bankers Life & Casualty. He is survived by his five children, Michael, Shari, Connie, Tricia and Ken, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marie, and his sister, Joyce. Gene was a fun-loving person with a gregarious, cheerful personality. He loved to joke, had a funny wit and loved to laugh. He enjoyed being on the golf course, watching the Cleveland Indians, playing cards, planting flowers in the yard, and owning and restoring classic cars. He believed in community service and a life of faith and was a past member of the Copley-Fairlawn Kiwanis Club and St. Hilary Catholic Church. He was a hard worker, a great dancer, a devoted husband, a great dad, and cheerful to the end. Gene would whistle, hum and sing no matter what life threw his way.
