George Albert Platt Jr., of Venice, passed on July 6, 2019, at the age of 77. George was the husband of Alice (Saunders) Platt. George was born in Gadsen, Alabama, to the late George A Platt Sr. and Helen M. (Wiles) Platt. He grew up in Toms River, New Jersey, attending and graduating from area schools. He began working for the county via the Dover Sewage Authority for 17 years. Afterwards he became a pipefitter for Sambol Construction for 18 years before retiring to Venice, Florida, in 2007 to be with his children and grandchildren. George had many passions including scuba diving, searching for treasure with metal detectors on land and in the water; loved the outdoors, as well as an incredible knack for all manner of repairs including welding and maintenance of local schools and apartment complexes. Above all else he loved his family and being a father, husband, brother and friend. George is survived by his wife Alice (Saunders) Platt of Venice, Father to George Platt III and Barbara Shaefer of Venice, April Platt Nickell and Daren of Bradenton and James Platt and Dawn of Bradenton and Gladys Risk, of Bradenton, mother of their three children. Grandfather to Jonathan, Jessica, Mason, Dillan, James, Jr. and Aurorabella. Brother to Gary Platt and Elaine of Madison, CT and Gail Platt Weiss and Mike of VA.
