George Louis Spanos
June 16th, 1926 - June 30th, 2017
George Louis Spanos, 91, of Columbia SC passed away peacefully at home Friday, June 30, 2017. He was born in Bluefield, West Virginia to Louis and Katina Polizos Spanos. George is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy Mallis Spanos; children, Kathy, Louis and Paul (Kathryn) Spanos; granddaughters, Penelope (Dean) Kontos, Sophie, Alexandra and Zoe Spanos; step-children, Gaye, James (Veneta) and Thomas (Caroline); step-grandchildren, Alexis, Alexander, James, Jonathan, Angelo, Christopher and Mallis. He was a Mechanical Engineer with Western Electric and retired from Stencil Aero. George was a US Navy veteran of World War II; Graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute; member of AHEPA, Piedmont Pioneer Masonic Lodge of Winston-Salem, and the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Columbia SC. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather "Papou". The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. for the Trisagion on Monday, July 17th with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with Reverend Father Peter Telencio officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1900 Main Street Columbia, SC 29201. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park is assisting the family. The Spanos family would like to thank Halcyon Hospice staff; especially Amy, June, Margaret, Mandi, and Debbie, Amanda, Dee and Karen.
