Gerard Unrein
March 27th, 1922 - June 30th, 2017
Lt. Colonel Gerard Aubrey Unrein passed away on June 30th. He was 95 years old and a resident at Highpointe in Denver, Colorado. Gerard was born in Hays, Kansas on March 27, 1922. He was the oldest son of Dr. Gerard Sr. and Marguerite (Roberts) Unrein. He had 6 brothers and one sister. The Colonel retired from the Army after serving his country for 20 years. He was in World War II and the Korean War. Colonel Unrein was awarded the silver and gold medals of honor for his service among many other awards for his dedicated service to our country. After he retired from the Army, Gerard worked for and retired from Martin Marietta as a comptroller. While in the Army he met and fell in love with Alyce Shepherd and they got married in 1948. The Colonel was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather with a great sense of humor! You could always find the Colonel on the golf course with his many golfing buddies. Colonel Unrein is survived by his wife, Alyce L., and children Alyce T. Unrein, and Kathy (Unrein) Adams, and son-in-law Mark Adams, and daughter-in-law Judy (Hodgkin) Unrein. He is preceded in death by his son Jerry Unrein and brothers, Charlie and Bob Unrein. His grandchildren are Michael Unrein, Sara Unrein, Riley and Greg Hubbard, and Koby Adams. There will be a ceremony honoring and celebrating Colonel Gerard Aubrey Unrein’s life on Monday, July 10th, at 10:15 at Fort Logan In Denver, Colorado. Enter the north entrance gate off of South Sheridan and go to Staging Area C. In lieu of flowers you can send a charitable donation to Encompass Cares (hospice), 4251 Kipling, Wheatridge, CO, 80021.
