Gerardo Chavez passed away peacefully with his wife and seven children by his side on December 3, 2020. He was born to Jos Chavez and Maria Guadalupe Garcia on July 14, 1950. He is preceded in death by his parents Jos and Maria Guadalupe Chavez, his first wife Carmen Elizabeth, as well as several siblings: Isabel, Maria de Jesus and Felipe Chavez. Gerardo is survived by his loving wife Esmeralda Chavez and seven amazing children: Eugene, Francine, Naomi, Yvette, Itzmina, Gerardo and Kevin Chavez. He is also survived by 12 beautiful grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Cuca, Ambrosio, Jesus, Luis and Belem Chavez. Our dad was a very hard-working individual. We all fondly remember the love he had for his job as a construction worker. He would wake up before his alarm and go to work every single day. He worked very long, hard hours and took pride in having the opportunity to provide for his family. Even when he wasn't at his job, he worked at home. The man was put on this earth to garden. He had an absolute talent for it and every year, his squash leaves were so big, so beautiful and taller than he was! He grew pumpkins that could easily set records. His tomatoes were best enjoyed right off the vine with a dash of salt and a smile. The chili peppers he grew were spicy and fresh. He would dare us to take a bite. It was fun watching our oldest brother Eugene and his friends run around the yard trying to put out the fire with the waterhose! There were so many amazing things about our dad. He carried this giant overstuffed wallet around in his lunchbox. That thing was two business cards away from bursting into a thousand pieces, and there was no way he could fit it in his back pocket. Besides work and gardening, he loved dessert and naps. He is the only person I know who could be engaged in a conversation one minute and snoring the next. Our dad loved his grandkids dearly. I'm sure they all remember how he would help himself to their candy. He would take it right out of their Easter baskets before the kids could even go through them. He loved to give his grandbabies what we call "fish kisses". He was a family man and he demonstrated that love in his own way to each of us. We are going to miss him so much. We are so thankful for the wisdom and values he instilled in us. We are forever indebted to him for teaching us who we are, and what we want out of life. We love you Daddy, you will always be in our hearts! Services will be on December 17, 2020. The services will take place at, Saint Joseph's Church, 600 Galapago St. Denver, Colorado. 80204. At 10:00 AM there will be a Rosary followed by Mass Service at 11:00 AM. After Mass Service we will meet at 1:00 PM at Mount Olivet Cemetery to lay him to rest.
