GERTRUDE ALICE DUETSCH left this life on May 9, 2007 in Venice, Florida. Born on December 28, 1915 in Newark, New Jersey to Casper and Hannah Stewart, she was raised in Maplewood, NJ and graduated from Columbia High School. Prior to her marriage to John E. Duetsch in 1940, she worked for the Prudential insurance company. After raising three children and John’s return from the US Army in 1946, she resided in Maplewood ultimately relocating to Livingston and then to Convent Station, NJ. Gertrude was predeceased by John E. Duetsch, a former attorney, councilman and mayor of Livingston. She was an active participant in several organizations including St. Philomena’s Rosary Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Spring Brook Country Club, Jacaranda West Country Club and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice, Florida. She is survived by her children, John E. Duetsch Jr. of Warren, NJ, Karen Gammond of Braden River, FL and Thomas F. Duetsch of Morris Township, NJ. She also leaves seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 9 AM on June 23rd at St. Philomena’s Catholic Church in Livingston, NJ. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Salute America’s Heroes, 100 Broadway, Ossining, NY 10562 or to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238.
