Gladys Marion Younggren

Gladys Marion Younggren, 91, of Esko went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 10, 2012, in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. Gladys was born December 14, 1920, in the Twin Cities area. She was adopted by Albert and Emelia Winterquist of Esko. As a child, she often accompanied her father on his lay preacher journeys. She married Herbert Evald Younggren on October 31, 1943. Together, they raised four children in Esko. She spent most of her life caring for people. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Bigfork Hospital and at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. In her later years, she worked for Senior Friends as a home health care aide. She was active in the Bible Studies at Grace Baptist Church of Cloquet. She enjoyed her retirement years at Larson Commons. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Herb; her brother, Clifford Winterquist; and a sister Dorothy Long. Gladys is survived and will be sadly missed by her daughters, Karen (John) Thorson of Newark, IL, Marge (Will) Doty of Bluffton, SC, and Darlene Tuura of Warsaw, IN; her son, Tim (Karen) Younggren of Duluth; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 14, 2012, in Grace Baptist Church, 601 14th Street, Cloquet. Spring burial will be in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery in Esko. Memorials may be directed to Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton or Grace Baptist Church in Cloquet. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
