Glenn Russell Halverson
February 26th, 1925 - October 12th, 2016
Glenn Russell Halverson, 91, of Mahtowa passed away unexpectedly in his home Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Glenn was born February 26, 1925 in Austin, MN to Louis and Mathilda (Gunderson) Halverson. At the age of 12 his family moved to the McGregor area where he graduated from the McGregor High School in 1942. On September 29, 1945 he married Betty Rice. They farmed until 1951 when they moved to the San Fernando Valley in California where Glenn worked as foreman for the Manfull Dairy. In 1960 he moved to Oregon and managed another dairy there. In 1961, Glenn moved his family back to Minnesota to a farm in the Mahtowa area and worked for Anderson Dairy. In the late 60's to early 70's he and his wife, Betty, ran the Mahtowa Market. He went to work at Potlatch in Cloquet in 1966 and retired from the mill after 23 years. Glenn was a very hard working family man and was always there to help others. Glenn and Betty enjoyed a long retirement traveling in their motor home to Alaska and various other trips around the country. They enjoyed fishing trips and wintering in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. He loved visiting with family and friends and playing dominoes. Glenn will be sadly missed. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Lorraine Halverson, Ruth Tast and Marjorie Hawks. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty; three children, Cheryl Kalm (Lee Miller) of Mahtowa, Gary (Marlene) Halverson of Mahtowa and Caryl (Tom) Autio of Cloquet; five grandsons, Bryan (Tara) Kalm of Mahtowa; Jeremy (Debbie) Halverson of Atkinson; Jonathan Halverson, Sr. of Mahtowa; Drew Autio of Superior, WI and Jared Autio of South Lake Tahoe, CA and nine great grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will be on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 2 to 4:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room of Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet.
