Atkins-Northland Funeral Home
Gregory Allen Dahl
November 15th, 1948 - June 20th, 2017
Gregory Allen Dahl, 68 of Tamarack passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at his home. He was born on November 15, 1948 in Cloquet to Lawrence and Dorothy Dahl. Greg graduated from Cromwell High School in 1966. He excelled in football, basketball and baseball and served as an officer in FFA. Following high school, Greg married his high school sweetheart, Barb Olesiak. Shortly after their marriage, Greg was drafted into the Army in 1968 serving in Vietnam. Like so many other soldiers that returned home, Greg struggled with civilian life and fought post traumatic stress disorder for his remaining years. After his discharge from the Army, he served in the Army National Guard until 1974. He was a life member of the Carlton VFW. Greg worked for various construction companies and was a heavy equipment operator for Northland. He was a member of Local Union 49. Greg retired in 1994. Greg enjoyed raising cattle, horses, and dogs. His captain hook stories kept his kids from falling in Hasty Brook Creek. His many talents and strive for perfection in his work can be seen in his children and grandchildren. The deer won't miss Greg at all, but his family will miss the balsams he meticulously groomed throughout the year in anticipation of Christmas with his family. "As much as we wished our hugs and the laughter of your grandchildren could release you from the depths of your despair, we know only our Heavenly Father could release you from the pain and suffering you endured." Greg was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Curtis; nephew, Craig; and brother-in-law, Lyle Jokinen. He will be dearly missed by his three children, Valerie (Brad Camps), Allen "Butch" (Liz) Dahl and Amy (Ryan) Sportel; seven grandchildren, Jade, Keenan, Claire, Alaura, Ella, Sullivan and Finley; one great granddaughter, Novalee; brothers, Joe (Gail), Larry (Peggy), Pat (Jill) and Tim (Barb); and one sister, Cindy Jokinen; and special friends, Mike Huhta and Andy LaMotte. Gathering of family and friends will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, June 29th with a time of sharing at 5:30 followed by Military Honors accorded by the Carlton VFW Honor Guard at the Cromwell Pavilion. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Cromwell. To sign the guest book and offer an online tribute, see www.atkinsnorthlandfuneralhome.com
