Gregory "Greg" Dean Self
February 17th, 1948 - July 26th, 2015
Gregory "Greg" Dean Self, 67, of Columbia was called Home after battling a long illness, Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Providence Hospital, Forest Drive. Born February 17, 1948, in Harriman, TN, he was a son of the late Joseph C. and Emma Lee Miller Self. Greg was a welder by trade and had been employed with Midland Manufacturing. Greg had an affinity for nature and particularly enjoyed visiting the Catoosa Mountains in Tennessee. He was a hunter and fisherman, and could often be found traipsing through the woods looking for arrowheads. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Dean Gregory Self. He is survived by his wife of more than 43 years, Pamela Marie Self; daughters, Tammy L. Cochran (Stephen) and Amanda M. Self; two granddaughters, Victoria and Cadence Cochran; sister, Carol; two brothers, Joe, Jr. and Dick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
