Harold ""Jack"" Bauer, age 82, of Venice, FL, passed away on July 29, 2020. He was born in Cincinnati, OH on September 26, 1937 to Harold J. ""Whitie"" Bauer and Aimee E. Bauer. Jack was a 1955 graduate of Western Hills High School in Cincinnati. He attended the University of Cincinnati and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served in the US Navy Reserves from 1955 - 1963. Jack worked for the General Electric Co. as a Metallurgical Tech for the Cincinnati Research and Development Division for 43 years. After retiring from G.E., he worked at the Jack Nicholas Golf Course in Cincinnati and Calusa Lakes Golf Course in Nokomis. Jack was an amateur golfer and artist and a passionate preservationist and restorationist. He served in many capacities in his home communities. He was the founding Director and Past President of the Deer Park, Ohio-Sycamore Jaycees; Vice-Mayor and President of the Dear Park City Council; an ""Honorable Kentucky Colonel""; Blue Ash Ohio Sycamore School District Planning Commission member; Sycamore Athletic Club Little League; Mayor and Council Representative for Historic Village of Glendale, OH; Historic Preservation and Restoration Member/Director for Glendale Historic Preservation Board; ""Hometown Hero"" Designation Award for the Village of Glendale, OH by the Cincinnati Enquirer; Past President Bird Bay Village Master Board Association; Founding Director and Past President Friends of Historic Lord- Higel House and Venice Heritage Inc.; City of Venice , FL designated Supervisor of all Volunteers restoring oldest remaining house in South Sarasota County known as the Lord-Higel House to become a Pioneer Living History Museum and Welcome Center in Venice, FL; former Director and supporting member of the Friends of Warm Mineral Springs/Little Salt Springs Archaeology Association in North Port, FL; proud supporting member of the Venice Area Historical Society; Venice Heritage, Inc.; Historic Society of Sarasota County; Time Sifters; Venice Audubon Society; and the Florida Trust For Historic Preservation. Jack was a proud supporting member of Grand Lodge #204 Free and Accepted Masons in Sharonville, OH. He was also a member of Posts 159 and 301 in Venice and Sharonville. Jack was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church and supported the United Methodist Children's Home. Surviving family members include his wife of 62 years, Judith Anne Moon Bauer of Venice, FL; children Denise M. Bauer of Cincinnati, OH and H. Scott Bauer of Chagrin Falls, OH; grandchildren Ian R. and Quinn R. Nyberg, and Duncan M. and Henry J. Bauer; sister Barbara Bauer Rademaker; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be scheduled at a later date. Please direct memorial donations to the Venice Senior Friendship Center adult day care program, or to TideWell Hospice in Venice.
