Richard Church, ""Dick"", 84, of Venice, Florida went to be with our Lord on February 27, 2020 at Tidewell Hospice House of Venice surrounded by his family. Dick was born May 16, 1935 in Mount Sterling, OH to the late Wayne C. Church and Lillian Henrietta Bugg. Richard grew up in Gallipolis, OH, graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1953, and attended Ohio State University. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne C. Church II and his beloved dog, Kelly. Throughout his career, Dick worked at SOHIO, REI, CISCO, NDC, and CitiBank, eventually retiring from Banc-Tec as the Director of Corporate Purchasing. He held several executive positions including Vice-President of Operations and Data Processing, and served on the Board of Directors and the National Standards Committee. Dick started two companies and his job took him all over the United States and to other countries including Sweden, Germany, England, France, and Australia. Throughout his life, Dick actively served in his home churches and communities in OH, GA, TX, and FL. Dick was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Venice. He was a member of SunCoast Emmaus of Sarasota, served on many teams including Australia, and was instrumental in starting other Emmaus groups in GA, TX, SC, OH, and LA. Dick especially enjoyed working with the HS and college age Chrysalis teams. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Survivors include his wife of 64 ½ years, Margaret Maye Steinbrunner- Church, ""Peg"", of Venice, FL; children, Cathy Church Smith (Warren) of Melbourne, AUS, Connie Church Glover of Oviedo, FL, and Rick Church of Buford, GA; granddaughters, Lauren Smith of Melbourne, AUS, Kim Wright (Troy) of Lake Butler, FL, Kayla Church of Atlanta, GA, and Kendra Church of Buford, GA; great granddaughters, Addison and Brynlee Wright of Lake Butler, FL; sisters, Janice Layne of Gallipolis, OH and Eloise Louks of Lake Placid, FL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Farley Funeral Home, 265 S. Nokomis Ave, Venice FL. A Celebration of Life will be held from 7-9 pm on Friday, March 20, 2020 at Grace United Methodist Church, 400 Field Avenue E., Venice FL. In lieu of flowers, if anyone is interested in making a donation in memory of Richard Church, the family requests that they be sent to Tidewell Hospice House of Venice, Grace United Methodist Church-Venice, SunCoast Emmaus, Confessing Movement within the United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice.
