March 21st, 1930 - February 22nd, 2016
Helen Elizabeth Gass, 85, of West Columbia, South Carolina passed away February 22, 2016 at Carolina Gardens of West Columbia. She was born on March 21, 1930 in Sevierville, Tennessee to Arlie Lando Huskey and Letha Edna Carson Huskey. Helen was mother to Kathryn Faye Gass Pearce and Larry Dale Gass. She was a loving and caring mother and wife who supported James throughout his military career. The two would find joy in re-purposing items they found. During her husbands retirement, they continued to repair and enhance items. They would resell these items at Fort Jackson and were successful at this supplementing their retirement. As a couple they greatly enjoyed the outdoors spending a lot of time camping and visiting relatives throughout the southeast. Helen enjoyed bird watching and found pleasure in arts and crafts. Helen is survived by her son, Larry Dale Gass (Tina Cinicola); grandchildren, Stacy Pearce Teet (Jimmy); three great grandchildren, Jimmy, Jr., Caroline and Joshua Teet. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of more than 64 years James Gass and her sisters Mildred, Ruth, Marion, and Edna. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Saturday February 27, 2016 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Graveside funeral services will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Sunday February 28, 2016 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Terry Cagle officiating.

Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
