Helen Elizabeth McGough, 71, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away on October 1, 2017. She was born on March 23, 1946 in Deer Lodge, Montana to Jens and Georgie Kimball Hansen, of Columbia. Helen is survived by her daughter, Teri Copas (Jeff) of Charlotte, NC; son, Aaron McGough (Dena) of Lexington; sisters, Debra Sutherland (James) of Lexington, Kim Hanse of Eastover; grandchildren, Diana Copas of Charlotte, NC, Breanna Copas of Charlotte, NC, Preston McGough of Lexington, Alexander McGough and Kayde McGough. The family will receive friends at a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Home located at 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073, with Bill Wright officiating. Helen was a teacher for over 41 years, a member of Teachers Union, South Carolina Early Childhood Association (SCECA), Riverbanks Zoo & Garden and Riverbanks Society. She loved teaching so much she has requested that in lieu of flowers, although she LOVED flowers!!, be sent to Lexington County School District One Educational Foundation, whose mission is to support the educational process and enrich the quality of life in our community by raising and managing funds.
