Henry Ostell Ballew Newberry, SC A private memorial service celebrating the life of Henry Ostell Ballew, 91, of Newberry, SC will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any Little League or Youth Baseball Team of one?s choice in Ostell?s memory. Ostell passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. He was born in Greenville, SC to the late Henry Crawford Ballew and Bertha Deloach Ballew. Mr. Ballew was a WWII veteran of the United States Army and he retired from the Newberry Lumber Company. Ostell was an avid golfer, NASCAR fan, Clemson Tiger Fan, and he loved the game of baseball. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Joel Ballew. He was also a member of Mid-Carolina Country Club. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Carol Tompkins Ballew of Newberry; a son, Tom Ballew; a grandson, Scott and a special granddaughter Megan all of Columbia, SC. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements.
