Heyward Thomas Goff
July 22nd, 1926 - March 31st, 2022
Mr. Heyward Thomas Goff, 95, died Thursday, March 31, 2022 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Mt. Elon Baptist Church, 718 Mt. Elon Church Road in Hopkins, SC, followed by the burial services in the Mt. Elon Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, April 4, 2022 at Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC. Mr. Goff was born in Eastover, SC, and was the son of the late Charlie Rufus Goff and Gussie (Dolly) Wilson Goff. He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Campbell Goff; three brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by his four daughters and one son, Sherrie Pratt (Gilbert), Lynne Groves (Tim), Tommy Goff (Donna), Lareece Goff (Wesley), and Trish Mintz (Gerald); grandchildren, Sandy Plappert, Libby Boozer, Jimmy Causey, Blair Goodwin, Brooke McCarter, Brittany Woods, Brandi Bailey, Amber Gunn, Justin Mintz, Austin Mintz, and Matthew Mintz; and 24 great‐grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Alice Culley. He attended Lower Richland High School and then was drafted into the United States Army at 18 years old and served from 1944 – 1946 in World War II. He then returned back to Hopkins, SC to become a brick mason in the construction industry until retirement. After retirement, he continued to work for many years as a brick mason where he was known for his specialty work. He was a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church all his life and through the many years he spent countless hours volunteering his time for numerous jobs for the church. Mr. Goff will be remembered by how loving, caring, hardworking, and funny he was by everyone who got the chance to meet him.
