Inez Mae Anderson, age 94, of Moose Lake, died Friday, June 23,2006 in Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. Inez was born in Moose Lake on August 12, 1911 to C. David and Emily Almquist. She attended school in Moose Lake, graduating in 1929. Later Inez graduated from Superior Teachers College in 1930 and Bemidji State College in 1961, Magna cum laude. Inez taught school at Clear Creek School near Holyoke, Minnesota from 1931 to 1936. She also taught at the Aitkin County Country School in Jacobson and Hill City Elementary School. There was a shortage of teachers during the war so she went back to teaching, taking corresponding after school and summer school courses to finish her 4 year teaching degree. She began teaching in the White Bear Minnesota school system at the Vadnais Heights School, retiring in 1973. Inez was a wonderful teacher, loved by so many. She still has numerous former students who continue to write to her and stop by and visit when in the area. She was a member of Moose Lake Covenant Church, life member of the Minnesota Retired Teachers, Past President of Carlton County Retired Educators. Inez was a member of the Ground Observer Corps during World War II in Jacobson, MN. Inez helped establish the first Public Library in Moose Lake. She helped redevelop the Moose Lake Historical Museum. Inez has worked for many years as a volunteer at the Moose Lake Public Library mending books. She was a survivor of the 1918 fire. Inez was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm "Mack" Anderson; son, Donald Anderson; parents, C. David and Emily Almquist; brothers, Edward Almquist and Bertil Almquist; sisters, Esther Alfson, Thora Williams, Emily Dawley and Florence Simons; nephews, James Almquist, Dennis Almquist, Jay Dawley; and great nephew, Michael Arnold. Survivors include; Gladys (Bill) Jepson of Minnetonka, Lyle (Patti) Almquist of Moose Lake, David (Katherine) Almquist of Sharon, CT, Susan (Dennis) Arnold of Moose Lake, Kay (Chuck) Jepson-Young of Sturgeon Lake, Karen (Duane)Root of Eugene, OR, Linda (John ) Hurt of Elk River, Floyd (Chuck) Dawley of Brooklyn Center, Jacquelyn (Andy) Larson of Maple Grove, Barbara (Jim) Almquist of Moose Lake, Ross Anderson of Sturgeon Lake, Keith (Audrey) Anderson of Okemos, MI, Marcia (Harry) Bergstedt of Sturgeon Lake, Joyce (Jerry) Jerde of Cloquet and Ethel (Clarence) Carlson of Moose Lake. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews; and many friends and former students. Funeral Services were held on June 27, 2006 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Moose Lake. Burial in Blomskog Cemetery in Sturgeon Lake . Memorials preferred to the Moose Lake Public Library.
