Irene Shull
November 7th, 1912 - February 21st, 2013
WEST COLUMBIA: Irene Kirby Shull of West Columbia, SC, died peacefully after 100 years of a wonderful life on Thursday, February 21, 2013. Born in Timmonsville, SC, on November 7, 1912 to Sally an Wiley Kirby. Mrs. Shull lived most of her life in West Columbia. Mrs. Shull was predeceased by her loving husband, Orville Shull and son, James "Jim" O. Shull. Survivors include: her daughter, Yvonne D. Shull (Skip); grandchildren, Jessica Seel (Joe), Mandy Bagnal, and JR Shull; great grandchildren, Libby and Bryce Bagnal; sisters, Miriam Gummerson (Al) and Patricia Spears (Grover). Mrs. Shull was one of the longest serving and eldest members of the church she loved so much, Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church in West Columbia where she was recently named United Methodist Woman of the Year. She sang in the choir until she was 99 years old and was a member of the Loyal Workers Mima Senn Class and Young at Heart. She retired from Tapps Department Store and was known for her amazing apple pies and sewing skills. Mrs. Shull loved gardening an caring for the animals who visited her yard. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Tracey Kearse, Maighan Doods an Robin Gray and all of the staff of Agape Senior, and her special caregiver and friend, Orena Schwartz. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Mt. Hebron UMC on Leaphart Road, West Columbia. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church, 3050 Leaphart Road, West Columbia, SC 29169 or to Agape Nursing Home, 2705 Leaphart Road, West Columbia, SC 29169.
