Isaac Juan Bernal
August 11th, 1974 - December 31st, 2020
Sergeant First Class, Isaac Juan "Zeke" Bernal Sergeant First Class, Isaac Juan "Zeke" Bernal, age 46 passed away on December 31, 2020. Isaac was born in Alamosa, Colorado to Tereso & Mary Valles where he spent the majority of his childhood, and graduated from Center High School. Isaac is preceded in death by his father, Tereso Mota Valles, uncle, Lupe Vargas, uncle, Ron Bernal and cousin, Paul Bernal. Isaac is survived by his wife, Larae Bernal of Littleton, CO, his son, Devan Romero- Bernal (Danielle Romero) of Colorado Springs, CO, his son, Jaykob Bernal of Littleton, CO, his daughter Jaylah Baca of Aurora, CO, 2 grandchildren (Derrick and Bella Romero). His mother, Mary Valles of Center CO, brothers, Leon Bernal of Center, CO, and Carl Bernal (Denise Segura) of Alamosa, CO, his Aunt, Mary Ellen Vargas of Littleton, CO, Uncle, Joe Bernal (Claire Bernal) of Denver, CO, several nieces and nephews/great nieces and nephews, close cousins, extended family and amazing friends. Isaac attributed his wisdom to the woman he loved the most, his mother. He would call her often to discuss his successes, his heartaches, his dilemmas or just to check in on her to see how she was doing. It would take over 30 minutes to say good-bye as they argued over who loved each other more, or who was more stubborn. There was nothing more important in Isaac's life than his wife, his 2 sons, and his grandchildren. He would encourage his family to do better and become better than he was. He would do whatever it takes to see his children succeed. His love for his family will forever be infinite and will always be with them. Golfing was one of Isaac's most favorite activities. He was excited to have had the opportunity to golf at the 121st U.S. Open - Torrey Pines golf course in La Jolla, CA. He exclaimed, "It was a notch off my bucket list." If anyone had the privilege to be embraced by him, that person had the good fortune to experience a "healing hug" from his extra long arms. His smile would light up the room - those dimples! If you spent more than 5 minutes with him you'd either be smiling or belly laughing with him. You would always find yourself laughing at his crazy stories, silly faces, or wacky dancing antics. He truly was the life of any gathering and made everyone feel like they were the most important person to him. All the kiddos were instantly drawn to and adored him! He would immediately be on the floor playing or wrestling, dancing to tik tok videos, talking with them about whatever their interest was, giggling with them and everything in between! He loved his family and friends (that he considered extended family). He loved his brothers and sisters in arms. He also loved to teach others. He was overfilled with patience; From golfing techniques, gun safety, tactical gear, construction, to life in general. Isaac joined the US Army right after graduating High School in 1993. During his time in the Army he was deployed to Iraq from Aug 2007 to Aug 2008 with 5/19th Special Forces Group (A) which Isaac considered his other family. His awards and decorations include; 1x Army Commendation Medal, 2x Joint Service Achievement Medal, 3x Army Achievement Medal , Army Good Conduct Medal, 4x Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/M Device & Bronze Hour Glass, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, 2x Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon , Driver and Mechanic Badge, Parachutist Badge, And Expert Marksmanship Qual Badge His legacy was sharing his passion and knowledge of the military. He was proud when his son, niece, and nephew sought his insight and advice regarding military life. As a result each chose to join various branches of service. Devan Romero-Bernal - Army, Zekeal Bernal - Army, KiyAnna Nichter - Airforce, and Shaunte Branson - Navy Before his passing, Isaac gave the greatest gift of all, the opportunity for another's life to continue. His life blood will live on through a stranger as he donated stem cells to a young man with leukemia. A mother's son is alive today because of him. He was a giver without remorse or expectation of a payback. This world is a lesser place, having one of the greatest, gone from it. Isaac was so much more than words can express. His essence cannot be captured by pen and paper. Isaac; You are deeply and vastly loved. Your lack of presence is profoundly felt. Your silenced voice reverberates in the hearts of those that loved you most. Your impact will forever be imprinted in us. A footprint in concrete, on the lives, of those he spent time with. Isaac; You've ran your race. You've completed your task. Your service is complete. Rest peacefully now.
